Three Must See Indiana State Parks

Carved by glaciers millenia ago, Indiana is a state of immense natural beauty. Only here will you find both majestic sand dunes and beautiful deciduous forests all in the same state. So if you ever find your self vacationing in the Hoosier state and in need of something to do, here are three excellent state parks that you cannot miss.
For this article I have selected three very different parks that serve best to highlight all that Indiana has to offer. Please don’t limit yourself to these three on your vacation, however, as the others are every bit as nice to vist. Never the less, I will touch upon the Indiana Dunes, Spring Mill State Park, and the Shades State Park.
Along Indiana’s Lake Michigan Coast you will find the Indiana Dunes state park. Here you will find camping, trails, and the beautiful Lake Michigan beach as well as towering sand dunes that are just begging to be climbed. A trip to the lake can be an excellent way to cool off on those sweltering summer days.
Spring Mill State Park is located in Southern Indiana just a few mile outside of the town of Mitchell. In addition to your standard camping ammenities, Spring Mill provides tours of a working pioneer village as well as a boat trip through the Twin Caves!
The Shades State Park is located nearby Turkey Run and it provides some of the best hiking and camping in the state. The trails offer some of the best scenic views of Indiana’s natural rock formations and the canoeing is good as well.
By visiting these three parks you will be treated to but a taste of all that Indiana has to offer the adventurous traveler. So if you ever find yourself vacationing in Indiana, I whole heartedly recommend that you stop by and visit some of our magnificent state parks.
